About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Preview for the game Everton vs Liverpool

Everton arrive in this Merseyside derby in stronger recent league form, taking 10 points from their last five matches thanks to three wins and a draw. Liverpool have been less consistent with 7 points over the same span, mixing two defeats with two victories and a draw. Recent head-to-heads, however, lean towards the visitors: Liverpool edged the reverse fixture 2-1 and also won 1-0 in another home meeting, while Everton’s last success in this run was a 2-0 home win. The other clash in this sequence finished 2-2, underlining how tight this fixture can be. For Everton, defensive stability will be central, with Jordan Pickford (GAP +3.1%) behind a back line featuring James Tarkowski (GAP +3.6%) and Jarrad Branthwaite. Their recent points return suggests a side comfortable in controlled, lower-margin games, and the presence of Idrissa Gueye in midfield should help screen against Liverpool’s central runners. Liverpool’s threat is still defined by Mohamed Salah (GAP +2.9%), supported by Alexis Mac Allister (GAP +3.1%) in midfield, as they look to convert a superior recent derby record into another result away from home. Injuries and availability Everton could be boosted by the possible return of Carlos Alcaraz, who is nearing fitness after a knock that kept him out since missing the Manchester United match in February; he is being monitored ahead of this fixture. Jack Grealish remains a long-term absentee with a foot injury and is expected to be sidelined until at least early June. Liverpool have several ongoing issues: Stefan Bajcetic is still out with a hamstring problem, while Jayden Danns also continues his recovery from a hamstring setback. Wataru Endo is sidelined with a foot injury and is not expected back imminently. Conor Bradley is ruled out for the season following knee surgery, and Giovanni Leoni is also a long-term absentee with an ACL knee injury. Alisson is recovering from a muscle injury and, despite being listed in the expected lineup, is only projected to return towards the end of the season, so his availability here remains uncertain. Curtis Jones is a doubt after a recent groin issue, though his quick return to training offers some hope of involvement.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
