About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Preview for the game Chelsea vs Manchester United

Chelsea come into Gameweek 33 under pressure after four defeats in their last five league matches, taking just 3 points from that run. Manchester United have been inconsistent but slightly stronger over the same stretch with 7 points from their last five, mixing wins with setbacks. The Plus Minus model edges this as a marginal home-favoured contest, giving Chelsea a 41% chance of victory, a 27% probability of a draw and a 32% chance of an away win. Recent head-to-head data underlines how finely balanced this fixture has been. Across the last four league meetings, each side has one win, with two draws: Chelsea’s 4-3 home win and Manchester United’s 2-1 success at Old Trafford sit alongside a 1-1 draw and a narrow 1-0 Chelsea victory at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will again look to the creativity and end product of Cole Palmer (GAP +3.8%) and the control of Enzo Fernández (GAP +2.2%) to lift a side that has struggled for consistency. For United, Bruno Fernandes (GAP +2.5%) remains the key attacking reference between the lines, while Luke Shaw (GAP +3.1%) offers an important outlet on the left in both build-up and progression. Injuries and availability Chelsea remain without several options. Trevoh Chalobah is sidelined by an ankle injury and, although back on the pitch in training, is not expected to feature until early May. Levi Colwill is still recovering from a serious anterior cruciate ligament problem and is projected to be out until late May. Reece James is also unavailable with a hamstring injury and, despite making progress in his running work, does not yet have a firm return date. Jamie Gittens and goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen are both doubtful as they continue to work back from hamstring and groin issues respectively, while Mykhailo Mudryk is provisionally suspended by the Football Association after a failed drugs test. For Manchester United, Matthijs de Ligt remains out with a persistent back injury that has kept him sidelined for several months, and Patrick Dorgu is still recovering from a hamstring problem picked up earlier in the year. Lisandro Martínez is suspended, serving a three-match ban following a recent red card for violent conduct. Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is carrying a knock that ruled him out of United’s last league game and is considered doubtful, though reports suggest the issue is relatively minor.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
