About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a closely contested Bundesliga match, Hamburger SV secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, 2 May 2026. This result was somewhat unexpected given the pre-match odds, which slightly favored the home side, Frankfurt, who were looking to capitalize on their recent form. The game began with Eintracht Frankfurt taking the lead early in the second half through Can Uzun (GAP +3.2%), who found the back of the net in the 48th minute. However, Hamburger SV responded swiftly, with Albert Grønbæk scoring the equalizer just three minutes later in the 51st minute. The visitors then took the lead in the 59th minute thanks to a well-taken goal by Fábio Vieira (GAP +0.7%). Tactically, Hamburger SV's ability to quickly overturn the deficit was crucial. Their midfield, led by the industrious Albert Grønbæk, managed to control the tempo and create opportunities, which was reflected in their comeback. On the defensive end, Jordan Torunarigha (GAP +0.3%) and his colleagues held firm against Frankfurt's attempts to level the score. Eintracht Frankfurt's manager made several changes during the match, bringing in Rasmus Kristensen, Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, Ayoube Amaimouni, Younes Ebnoutalib, and Farès Chaïbi. Unfortunately, Kristensen's involvement ended on a sour note as he received a red card in the 90th minute, which further hampered Frankfurt's chances of salvaging a point. Hamburger SV's head coach also made strategic substitutions, introducing Giorgi Gocholeishvili, Yussuf Poulsen, Luka Vušković, Damion Downs, and Daniel Elfadli to maintain their lead and secure the win. This victory propels Hamburger SV up the Bundesliga table, boosting their hopes for a strong finish to the season. Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt will need to regroup quickly as they aim to bounce back in the remaining fixtures. The result highlights the competitive nature of the Bundesliga, where every match can significantly impact the standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
