About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Bayer 04 Leverkusen delivered a commanding performance in their Bundesliga clash against RB Leipzig, securing a 4-1 victory that was both emphatic and unexpected given the pre-match odds. Leverkusen, who have been in inconsistent form recently, managed to outclass a Leipzig side that had been tipped as slight favorites. The match began with a strong showing from Leverkusen, with Patrik Schick (GAP +2.6%) opening the scoring in the 25th minute. Schick was in sensational form, completing a hat-trick with further goals in the 76th and 89th minutes, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Nathan Tella (GAP +0.8%) also contributed to the scoreline with a goal just before halftime, putting Leverkusen in a commanding position. RB Leipzig managed to pull one back through Christoph Baumgartner (GAP +2.8%) in the 80th minute, but it was too little, too late for the visitors. Despite Baumgartner's efforts, Leipzig struggled to break down a well-organized Leverkusen defense, marshaled effectively by Edmond Tapsoba (GAP +3.3%). Tactically, Leverkusen's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's ability to deliver. In contrast, RB Leipzig's head coach opted for a more dynamic approach, making several substitutions during the game, including the introduction of Assan Ouédraogo and Castello Lukeba, in an attempt to change the game's momentum. The result leaves Leverkusen in a stronger position as they look to finish the season on a high note, while Leipzig will need to regroup quickly to maintain their position in the upper echelons of the Bundesliga table. This victory could serve as a significant morale boost for Leverkusen, potentially impacting their performance positively in the remaining fixtures. Post-match reactions highlighted Schick's standout performance, with fans and pundits alike praising his decisive contributions. The win marks a crucial step for Leverkusen as they aim to climb the table and secure a European competition spot for next season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
