About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Eintracht Frankfurt and 1. FC Köln played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in their Bundesliga clash on Sunday. The match, held at Frankfurt's home ground, saw both teams share the spoils in a game that was full of attacking intent and late drama. The game started with both sides showing attacking prowess, but it was Jonathan Burkardt (GAP +5.6%) who broke the deadlock for Eintracht Frankfurt in the 66th minute. His goal was quickly followed by an equalizer from Arnaud Kalimuendo (GAP -1.3%) just three minutes later, showcasing Frankfurt's quick response and resilience. However, Köln was not to be outdone. Jakub Kamiński (GAP +0.3%) put the visitors ahead in the 70th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Frankfurt. The game seemed to be slipping away from the hosts until Alessio Castro-Montes came off the bench to score a crucial equalizer for Köln in the 83rd minute, ensuring both teams left with a point. In terms of tactical adjustments, Eintracht Frankfurt made five substitutions, bringing in Younes Ebnoutalib, Mario Gotze, Ayoube Amaimouni, Ellyes Skhiri, and Farès Chaïbi. These changes were likely aimed at injecting fresh energy into the team as they chased the game. Köln also made five changes, with Linton Maina, Alessio Castro-Montes, Marius Bülter, Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson, and Luca Waldschmidt entering the fray, which paid dividends with Castro-Montes' late goal. The result leaves both teams in a similar position in the Bundesliga table, with Eintracht Frankfurt maintaining their mid-table status and Köln continuing to hover around the same area. This draw reflects the competitive nature of the league, where every point is crucial as the season approaches its climax. Post-match reactions highlighted the spirited performances from both sides, with fans appreciating the attacking football on display. The managers will likely be content with the point, but aware that defensive improvements are necessary to secure victories in future matches.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
