About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a surprising Bundesliga encounter, FC Augsburg secured a 3-1 victory over Werder Bremen at the Weserstadion. The result was unexpected given Werder Bremen's recent form, which saw them enter the match with a string of positive performances. Augsburg, however, capitalized on their opportunities and executed a well-planned strategy to take all three points. The match began with Augsburg asserting themselves early, as Anton Kade (GAP -2.9%) opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Kade doubled his tally just before halftime, giving Augsburg a commanding 2-0 lead at the break. Werder Bremen responded in the second half with Romano Schmid (GAP +1.4%) finding the net in the 64th minute, offering a glimmer of hope for the home side. However, Kristijan Jakić sealed the victory for Augsburg with a goal in the 69th minute, extinguishing any hopes of a Bremen comeback. Tactically, Augsburg's manager made effective use of his substitutes, bringing on Kristijan Jakić, who made an immediate impact with his goal. The visitors' defensive solidity was highlighted by Jeffrey Gouweleeuw (GAP -0.2%), who marshaled the backline effectively. For Werder Bremen, Marco Friedl (GAP +1.6%) and his defensive partners struggled to contain Augsburg's attacking threats. In terms of lineup changes, Werder Bremen's manager opted for a consistent lineup, while Augsburg's head coach introduced several fresh faces, including Rodrigo Ribeiro and Arthur Chaves, who contributed to their team's dynamic performance. This victory propels FC Augsburg further up the Bundesliga table, enhancing their chances of a strong finish to the season. Werder Bremen, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly to maintain their position and avoid slipping down the standings as the season draws to a close.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
