Game Review
FSV Mainz 05 secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in their Bundesliga clash on Sunday, 22 March 2026. The match was a tightly contested affair, with Mainz's Paul Nebel (GAP +1.2%) emerging as the hero by scoring both goals for the home side. This result was somewhat surprising given Frankfurt's recent form, but Mainz capitalized on their opportunities effectively. The game started with a bang as Paul Nebel put Mainz ahead in the 6th minute, setting the tone for an intense encounter. Eintracht Frankfurt responded in the 20th minute through Nathaniel Brown (GAP +3.0%), who leveled the score with a well-taken goal. The match remained evenly poised until the dying moments when Nebel struck again in the 89th minute, securing all three points for Mainz. Tactically, Mainz's lineup featured no changes from their previous match, indicating a stable approach from their manager. In contrast, Eintracht Frankfurt made several adjustments, bringing in players like Can Uzun and Ansgar Knauff from the bench, but these changes were unable to alter the outcome. Dominik Kohr (GAP +4.5%) and Danny da Costa (GAP +2.2%) were instrumental in maintaining Mainz's defensive solidity, while Jonathan Burkardt (GAP +5.6%) was a constant threat for Frankfurt, though he couldn't find the back of the net. This victory propels Mainz further up the Bundesliga table, providing them with much-needed momentum as they aim to secure a strong finish to the season. For Eintracht Frankfurt, the defeat is a setback in their pursuit of European qualification, highlighting the need for tactical adjustments in upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
