About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Premier League encounter at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Liverpool edged out Everton with a 2-1 victory. This result was somewhat expected given Liverpool's superior form and league position, although Everton put up a resilient fight. The match began with Liverpool asserting their dominance, and it was Mohamed Salah (GAP +2.9%) who broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Everton, however, responded well in the second half, with Beto leveling the score in the 54th minute, giving the home fans a glimmer of hope. As the game progressed, both teams had their chances, but it was Liverpool who found the decisive goal. Virgil van Dijk (GAP +3.5%) headed home in the 90th minute, sealing the win for the visitors and demonstrating his aerial prowess. Tactically, Liverpool made two changes to their lineup from the previous match, introducing Alexander Isak (GAP +2.8%) and Ryan Gravenberch (GAP +4.3%) in place of Jeremie Frimpong and Rio Ngumoha. These changes were likely influenced by injuries and suspensions, as Liverpool have been managing a series of fitness issues throughout the squad. Everton, on the other hand, fielded an unchanged lineup, sticking with the same players who have been battling through a challenging season. Despite their efforts, Everton's inability to capitalize on their chances ultimately cost them. This victory keeps Liverpool firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish, bolstering their points tally and maintaining their momentum. For Everton, the defeat leaves them precariously close to the relegation zone, and they will need to regroup quickly to secure their Premier League status. Post-match reactions highlighted Liverpool's resilience and Everton's spirited performance. The away team's head coach praised his squad's determination, while Everton's manager acknowledged the need for improvement in their upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
