About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

FC Bayern München delivered a commanding performance in their Bundesliga clash against St. Pauli, securing a resounding 5-0 victory. This result was largely expected given Bayern's superior form and squad depth compared to their opponents, who are battling in the lower half of the table. The match began with Bayern asserting their dominance early on. Jamal Musiala (GAP +4.6%) opened the scoring in the 9th minute, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Bayern's midfield, orchestrated by Joshua Kimmich (GAP +9.9%), controlled the tempo, leaving St. Pauli struggling to gain a foothold. In the second half, Bayern's relentless pressure paid off with Leon Goretzka (GAP +4.2%) doubling the lead in the 53rd minute, followed swiftly by Michael Olise (GAP +8.2%) who made it 3-0 just two minutes later. Nicolas Jackson (GAP +6.0%) added a fourth in the 65th minute, showcasing Bayern's attacking prowess. Raphael Guerreiro (GAP +5.8%) capped off the scoring in the 88th minute, sealing a comprehensive win. Tactically, Bayern's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's ability to deliver. In contrast, St. Pauli's lineup saw several substitutions during the game, with players like Taichi Hara and Connor Metcalfe coming on to try and change the course of the match, albeit unsuccessfully. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) highlighted the influence of Bayern's key players, particularly Manuel Neuer (GAP +9.6%) who ensured a clean sheet with his commanding presence in goal. This victory solidifies Bayern's position at the top of the Bundesliga, maintaining their momentum as they push towards the title. For St. Pauli, the defeat underscores the challenges they face in climbing the table, as they continue to search for form in the closing stages of the season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
