About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Bundesliga encounter, FC Bayern München edged past SC Freiburg with a 3-2 victory, showcasing their resilience and depth. The match, held on Saturday, 4 April 2026, saw Bayern come from behind to secure all three points, a result that aligns with their status as favorites given their recent form. The game began with SC Freiburg taking the lead through Johan Manzambi (GAP +0.3%) right after the break in the 46th minute, setting the tone for an intense second half. Freiburg doubled their advantage in the 71st minute with a goal from Lucas Höler (GAP -1.0%), putting Bayern under significant pressure. However, Bayern's tactical adjustments and substitutions paid dividends. Tom Bischof (GAP +1.2%) emerged as the hero for Bayern, scoring twice in the dying moments of the match. His goals in the 81st and 90th minutes turned the tide in Bayern's favor. Lennart Karl (GAP +2.1%) sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute, completing a dramatic comeback. From a tactical standpoint, Bayern's manager made five changes, bringing in Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, Konrad Laimer, Aleksandar Pavlović, and Alphonso Davies. These changes injected fresh energy into the squad, crucial in overturning the deficit. SC Freiburg also made five substitutions, but they couldn't withstand Bayern's late surge. Key performances included Joshua Kimmich (GAP +9.9%), who orchestrated play from midfield, and Manuel Neuer (GAP +9.6%), whose leadership and saves were vital in keeping Bayern in the game. This victory keeps Bayern firmly in the title race, maintaining their momentum with only a few games left in the season. For Freiburg, despite the loss, the performance was commendable, and they remain competitive in the mid-table battle. The result highlights Bayern's ability to perform under pressure, a trait that could prove decisive in the closing stages of the Bundesliga campaign.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
