About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Bundesliga clash, Bayer 04 Leverkusen edged past Borussia Dortmund with a narrow 1-0 victory at Signal Iduna Park. The match was decided by a solitary goal from Robert Andrich (GAP +3.6%) in the 42nd minute, which proved to be the difference between the two sides. This result might come as a surprise to some, given Dortmund's strong home form this season. The game started with both teams showing intent, but it was Leverkusen who capitalized on their opportunity just before halftime. Andrich's goal came from a well-executed set-piece, catching the Dortmund defense off guard. Despite Dortmund's efforts to equalize, they were unable to break through Leverkusen's resolute defense, led by Edmond Tapsoba (GAP +4.0%) and goalkeeper Mark Flekken (GAP +0.8%), who made several crucial saves. From a tactical perspective, Borussia Dortmund's manager made five substitutions, bringing in Carney Chukwuemeka, Almugera Kabar, Samuele Inácio, Maximilian Beier, and Salih Özcan. These changes were likely an attempt to inject fresh energy into the team, but they failed to alter the outcome. On the other hand, Leverkusen's head coach also made strategic changes, introducing Ernest Poku, Malik Tillman, Patrik Schick, and Lucas Vazquez to maintain their lead. Key players for Dortmund included Julian Brandt (GAP +4.1%) and Gregor Kobel (GAP +5.2%), who both put in commendable performances despite the loss. However, it was Waldemar Anton (GAP +6.6%) who stood out with a solid defensive display, even as his team struggled to find the back of the net. This victory is significant for Bayer Leverkusen as it strengthens their position in the league, potentially boosting their chances for European qualification. Meanwhile, Dortmund will need to regroup quickly to maintain their push for a top-four finish. The result leaves fans and analysts pondering whether Dortmund can bounce back in the remaining fixtures of the season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
