About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at Old Trafford, Manchester United edged out Liverpool with a 3-2 victory, a result that might have surprised some given Liverpool's strong form coming into the match. The game was marked by a series of momentum shifts, with both teams showcasing their attacking prowess. Manchester United took an early lead with Matheus Cunha (GAP +2.5%) finding the net in the 6th minute, setting the tone for a high-octane clash. Benjamin Šeško doubled the advantage for the hosts in the 14th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Liverpool. However, Liverpool responded strongly in the second half, with Dominik Szoboszlai (GAP +4.1%) scoring just after the break in the 47th minute, followed by Cody Gakpo's (GAP +2.4%) equalizer in the 56th minute, which brought the game back to level terms. The decisive moment came in the 77th minute when Kobbie Mainoo scored the winner for Manchester United, ensuring they secured all three points. This victory was crucial for Manchester United as they continue to push for a higher finish in the league standings. Tactically, Manchester United made one change from their previous lineup, bringing in Matheus Cunha for Amad Diallo. Liverpool, on the other hand, made two changes, with Ryan Gravenberch and Jeremie Frimpong coming into the starting eleven, replacing Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak. These changes were part of a strategic rotation by both teams, with Liverpool's adjustments likely influenced by injury concerns. The standout performances came from players like Florian Wirtz (GAP +5.4%), who was instrumental in Liverpool's midfield, and Bruno Fernandes (GAP +3.1%), who orchestrated Manchester United's attacks with precision. This result leaves Manchester United in a stronger position as they look to finish the season on a high note, while Liverpool will need to regroup quickly to maintain their momentum in the league. The match was a testament to the competitive nature of the Premier League, with both teams demonstrating why they are among the top contenders this season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
