About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Leeds United secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Burnley in their Premier League clash at Elland Road, a result that aligns with pre-match expectations given Leeds' recent form. Leeds, who made two changes to their lineup with Joe Rodon and Anton Stach coming in for Gabriel Gudmundsson and Brenden Aaronson, demonstrated their attacking prowess early on. The match began with Leeds taking control, as Anton Stach (GAP +0.4%) opened the scoring in the 8th minute, setting the tone for the home side. Leeds continued to dominate, and their efforts paid off in the second half when Noah Okafor (GAP +1.2%) doubled their lead in the 52nd minute. Just four minutes later, Dominic Calvert-Lewin (GAP +3.3%) added a third, effectively sealing the game for Leeds. Burnley, who did not make any changes to their starting lineup from their previous match, struggled to find their rhythm. Loum Tchaouna (GAP -2.1%) managed to pull one back for Burnley in the 71st minute, but it was too little, too late for the visitors. Tactically, Leeds' manager's decision to bring in Joe Rodon and Anton Stach paid dividends, as both players contributed significantly to the team's solid performance. Burnley's unchanged lineup might have been a factor in their inability to cope with Leeds' dynamic play. Post-match reactions highlighted Leeds' clinical finishing and solid defensive organization as key factors in their victory. The win helps Leeds maintain their momentum as they push for a strong finish to the season, while Burnley will need to regroup quickly to avoid slipping further down the table. This result leaves Leeds in a favorable position as they continue their campaign, while Burnley must address their defensive frailties to improve their standing in the league.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
