About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Bundesliga encounter, FC Bayern München and FC Heidenheim played out a dramatic 3-3 draw at the Allianz Arena. The result was somewhat unexpected given Bayern's status as title contenders, while Heidenheim, battling in the lower half of the table, managed to secure a valuable point. The match began with Heidenheim taking an early lead through Budu Zivzivadze (GAP -2.5%) in the 22nd minute. Eren Dinkçi (GAP +0.2%) doubled their advantage in the 31st minute, putting Bayern on the back foot. However, Bayern responded just before halftime with a goal from Leon Goretzka (GAP +4.4%) in the 44th minute, reducing the deficit. The second half saw Bayern level the score with another goal from Goretzka in the 57th minute, showcasing his crucial role in the midfield. Despite Bayern's dominance, Heidenheim struck again in the 76th minute with Zivzivadze scoring his second of the match, putting the visitors ahead once more. As the game approached its conclusion, Bayern's persistence paid off when Diant Ramaj (GAP -2.7%) found the net in the 90th minute, ensuring the match ended in a draw. This late equalizer was a testament to Bayern's resilience and attacking prowess. Tactically, Bayern's manager made four substitutions, bringing in Alphonso Davies, Michael Olise, Luis Díaz, and Joshua Kimmich to inject fresh energy into the team. Heidenheim's head coach also made strategic changes, introducing Tim Siersleben, Stefan Schimmer, Mikkel Kaufmann, and Luca Kerber to maintain their competitive edge. The result leaves Bayern in a challenging position as they aim to close the gap at the top of the table, while Heidenheim will be buoyed by their performance against one of the league's giants. This draw highlights Bayern's defensive vulnerabilities, which they will need to address in their remaining fixtures. Post-match reactions emphasized Bayern's need to tighten their defense, while Heidenheim's spirited display was praised by fans and pundits alike. The draw keeps the Bundesliga title race intriguing as the season nears its climax.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
