About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Premier League encounter at the Brentford Community Stadium, Brentford and Fulham played out a goalless draw. The result was not entirely unexpected given both teams' recent form, with neither side able to capitalize on their chances to secure a crucial win. The match saw a lack of clear-cut opportunities, with both defenses holding firm. Brentford's Caoimhín Kelleher (GAP +2.5%) was solid between the posts, ensuring his side kept a clean sheet. Fulham's Bernd Leno (GAP +1.4%) was equally impressive, making several key saves to deny the home team. Fulham made four changes to their lineup, with Tom Cairney (GAP -6.4%), Ryan Sessegnon (GAP -0.3%), Sasa Lukic (GAP -0.4%), and Emil Smith Rowe (GAP -0.5%) coming into the starting eleven. These changes were part of a tactical reshuffle by the Fulham head coach, who opted for fresh legs in a bid to outmaneuver Brentford. Brentford, on the other hand, fielded an unchanged lineup, showing confidence in their existing squad. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) highlighted some standout performances. Kevin Schade (GAP +3.3%) was particularly influential for Brentford, providing energy and creativity in the attacking third. Meanwhile, Fulham's Harry Wilson (GAP +1.6%) was a constant threat on the wing, using his pace to trouble the Brentford defense. Despite the lack of goals, the match was not short of intensity. Both teams showed determination, but ultimately, neither could find the breakthrough. The draw leaves Brentford in a stable mid-table position, while Fulham continues to hover around the lower half, needing to find form to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle. Post-match reactions from both camps suggested a mix of frustration and acceptance. The Brentford manager expressed satisfaction with the defensive solidity but acknowledged the need for more cutting edge in attack. Fulham's head coach, meanwhile, praised his team's resilience and highlighted the importance of building on this result in the coming fixtures. Overall, the stalemate reflects the competitive nature of the Premier League, where even closely matched teams can struggle to find an edge over one another.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
