Game Review
In a surprising turn of events in the Bundesliga, FSV Mainz 05 managed to secure a 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday, 31 January 2026. This result defied pre-match expectations, as Leipzig were considered the favorites, especially playing at home. However, Mainz's tactical discipline and clinical finishing turned the tide in their favor. The match began with Leipzig taking the lead in the 40th minute through Conrad Harder, who capitalized on a defensive lapse by Mainz. However, Mainz responded swiftly, with Nadiem Amiri (GAP +3.8%) equalizing just before halftime in the 45th minute. The second half saw Mainz continue their momentum, with substitute Silas Katompa Mvumpa scoring the decisive goal in the 49th minute, showcasing Mainz's effective use of their bench. RB Leipzig's lineup saw no changes from their previous outing, indicating a consistent approach by their manager. In contrast, FSV Mainz 05 made several changes, bringing in players like Silas Katompa Mvumpa and others, which proved pivotal in their victory. The tactical adjustments by Mainz's head coach, particularly the introduction of Katompa Mvumpa, were instrumental in securing the win. Key performances included David Raum (GAP +5.6%) for Leipzig, who was active on the flanks, and Xaver Schlager (GAP +2.7%), who tried to control the midfield. However, Mainz's defensive resilience, led by Stefan Bell (GAP +2.5%) and Danny da Costa (GAP +1.8%), was crucial in stifling Leipzig's attacking threats. This victory propels Mainz further up the Bundesliga table, providing them with much-needed momentum as they look to climb higher. For Leipzig, this defeat is a setback, and they will need to regroup quickly to maintain their position in the upper echelons of the league. The result highlights the unpredictable nature of the Bundesliga, where any team can triumph on their day.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
