About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Bundesliga encounter, Borussia Dortmund edged past FC Heidenheim with a 3-2 victory at home. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams showing resilience and attacking prowess. Dortmund, traditionally the stronger side, were expected to dominate, but Heidenheim's spirited performance made it a closely contested affair. The game kicked off with Dortmund taking the lead just before halftime through Waldemar Anton's strike in the 44th minute. However, Heidenheim responded almost immediately, with Julian Niehues leveling the score in the 45th minute, setting the stage for an intense second half. Niehues struck again for Heidenheim shortly after the break in the 48th minute, putting the visitors ahead and causing a stir among the Dortmund faithful. The home side, however, showed their mettle and turned the game around with a quickfire double from Sehrou Guirassy in the 68th and 69th minutes, securing the win for Dortmund. Tactically, Dortmund's manager made several changes during the match, bringing on Fábio Silva, Maximilian Beier, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Niklas Sule, which added fresh legs and impetus to their play. Heidenheim also utilized their bench, introducing Mikkel Kaufmann, Arijon Ibrahimović, Sirlord Conteh, Jan Schöppner, and Stefan Schimmer in an attempt to regain control. This victory keeps Dortmund in the hunt for a top-four finish, bolstering their position in the Bundesliga standings. Meanwhile, Heidenheim, despite the loss, can take positives from their performance against a top-tier opponent, which could serve them well in their battle to climb the table. Post-match reactions highlighted the resilience of Dortmund, with players and fans alike praising the team's ability to come back from a goal down. The result reflects Dortmund's strong form, as they continue to push for European qualification, while Heidenheim will look to build on their promising display in future matches.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
