About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Bundesliga match, FC Augsburg secured a 2-1 victory over St. Pauli, with Michael Gregoritsch (GAP +1.3%) proving to be the decisive factor. The win was not entirely unexpected, as Augsburg had been showing solid form in recent weeks, while St. Pauli struggled to find consistency. The match began with both teams probing for weaknesses, but it was St. Pauli who struck first. Danel Sinani (GAP -2.4%) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, giving the visitors a brief lead. However, Augsburg responded swiftly, with Gregoritsch leveling the score just before halftime in the 41st minute. The second half saw Augsburg take control, and it was Gregoritsch again who found the back of the net in the 59th minute, securing his brace and ultimately the victory for the home side. His performance was instrumental, as he consistently troubled the St. Pauli defense. Tactically, Augsburg's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's current form. In contrast, St. Pauli's head coach opted for a few adjustments, bringing in players like Ricky-Jade Jones and Karol Mets, though the reasons for these changes were not publicly detailed. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) highlighted the impact of several players. Alexis Claude-Maurice (GAP +0.8%) and Finn Dahmen (GAP +0.9%) also contributed positively to Augsburg's performance, while St. Pauli's Eric Smith (GAP -2.6%) and Joel Fujita (GAP -2.7%) struggled to make a significant impact. Post-match reactions praised Gregoritsch's clinical finishing, which was the difference in a match that could have swung either way. The result leaves Augsburg in a stronger position in the Bundesliga standings, building momentum as they aim to climb higher. Meanwhile, St. Pauli will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities to improve their league position.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
