About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In an engaging Bundesliga clash, FC Augsburg and SC Freiburg played out a 2-2 draw on Sunday, 18 January 2026. The match was characterized by a flurry of second-half goals, with both teams showing resilience and tactical adaptability. The result was largely expected given both teams' mid-table standings and recent form. The game burst into life in the second half after a goalless first period. Alexis Claude-Maurice (GAP +0.7%) opened the scoring for Augsburg in the 47th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Freiburg. Just two minutes later, Elvis Rexhbeçaj doubled Augsburg's lead, putting them in a commanding position. However, Freiburg responded swiftly, with Yuito Suzuki and Igor Matanovic scoring in the 60th and 62nd minutes, respectively, to level the match. Tactically, Augsburg's manager made five changes to the lineup, introducing Marius Wolf, Cédric Zesiger, Mads Valentin, Elvis Rexhbeçaj, and Anton Kade. These changes seemed to inject energy and creativity into the side, particularly with Rexhbeçaj's impact off the bench. Freiburg's head coach also made strategic substitutions, bringing in Yuito Suzuki, who made an immediate impact with his goal. Key performances included Matthias Ginter (GAP +2.3%) and Yannik Keitel (GAP +3.0%) for Freiburg, both of whom were instrumental in stabilizing the team's defense and midfield after falling behind. For Augsburg, Finn Dahmen (GAP +1.6%) was crucial in goal, making several important saves to keep his team in the match. The draw leaves both teams in the middle of the Bundesliga table, with Augsburg slightly ahead in terms of recent form. This result maintains their momentum, having avoided defeat in their last few outings. Freiburg, on the other hand, will be looking to tighten their defense as they aim to climb higher in the standings. Post-match reactions highlighted the competitive nature of the game, with both managers expressing satisfaction with their teams' fighting spirit. The result reflects the balanced nature of the Bundesliga this season, where every point is fiercely contested.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
