About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a surprising turn of events in the Bundesliga, FC Augsburg managed to secure a 2-1 victory over FC Bayern München at the Allianz Arena. This result defied pre-match expectations, as Bayern were the favorites given their strong squad and home advantage. The match began with Bayern taking the lead in the 23rd minute through Hiroki Ito (GAP +2.2%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse by Augsburg. Despite Bayern's early dominance, Augsburg remained resilient and gradually grew into the game. The turning point came in the second half when Arthur Chaves (GAP -0.8%) equalized for Augsburg in the 75th minute, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. Just six minutes later, Han-Noah Massengo scored the decisive goal for Augsburg, completing a remarkable comeback. Bayern's attempts to respond were thwarted by a well-organized Augsburg defense, with Finn Dahmen (GAP +0.9%) making crucial saves to maintain their lead. Tactically, Bayern's manager made several changes, bringing in Nicolas Jackson, Joshua Kimmich, Tom Bischof, and Jamal Musiala from the bench, but these substitutions failed to turn the tide. Augsburg's head coach also made strategic adjustments, introducing Yannik Keitel, Mert Kömür, Samuel Essende, and Marius Wolf to bolster their defense and midfield. Key performances included Harry Kane (GAP +11.2%), who was instrumental in Bayern's attacking efforts, and Michael Olise (GAP +8.2%), who provided creativity on the wings. However, it was Augsburg's collective defensive effort and clinical finishing that ultimately secured the victory. This result leaves Bayern in a precarious position, needing to reassess their strategy as they aim to maintain their title challenge. For Augsburg, this victory provides a significant boost in confidence and points, helping them climb the Bundesliga table and distance themselves from the relegation zone.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
