About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Bundesliga match, Werder Bremen secured a narrow 1-0 victory over VfL Wolfsburg, thanks to a decisive goal from Justin Njinmah (GAP -4.4%) in the 68th minute. This result was somewhat unexpected as Wolfsburg, playing at home, were seen as slight favorites due to their higher league position and recent form. The match was largely balanced, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances in the first half. Wolfsburg's defense, marshaled by Moritz Jenz (GAP -1.2%), held firm until the second half when Njinmah capitalized on a rare defensive lapse to score the only goal of the game. Wolfsburg's attempts to equalize were further hampered by Jenz's red card in the 90th minute, which effectively ended their hopes of a comeback. Tactically, Werder Bremen's head coach made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, maintaining a consistent approach that has served them well in recent weeks. In contrast, Wolfsburg's manager opted for a more dynamic setup, introducing players like Adam Daghim and Patrick Wimmer from the bench in an attempt to inject pace and creativity into the attack. Key performances included Marco Friedl (GAP +2.5%), who was instrumental in Bremen's defensive solidity, and Mohammed Amoura (GAP +4.5%), who showed flashes of brilliance for Wolfsburg but was ultimately unable to break through Bremen's organized defense. This victory propels Werder Bremen further up the Bundesliga table, providing them with a crucial three points in their quest to secure a mid-table finish. For Wolfsburg, the defeat is a setback in their pursuit of European qualification, highlighting the need for more consistency in their performances as the season enters its final stretch.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
