About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a commanding Bundesliga performance, VfB Stuttgart dismantled VfL Wolfsburg with a 4-0 victory on Sunday, 1 March 2026. This result was somewhat unexpected given the competitive nature of the Bundesliga, but Stuttgart's clinical execution left Wolfsburg with no answers. The match began with Stuttgart asserting dominance early on. Deniz Undav (GAP +4.2%) opened the scoring in the 21st minute, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Jamie Leweling (GAP +3.4%) was the standout performer, doubling Stuttgart's lead in the 30th minute and adding another just before halftime in the 42nd minute. His brace effectively put the game beyond Wolfsburg's reach before the interval. In the second half, Stuttgart maintained their pressure, and substitute Nikolas Nartey capped off the scoring in the 90th minute, sealing a comprehensive victory. The home side's tactical setup allowed them to exploit Wolfsburg's defensive frailties, with Alexander Nübel (GAP +3.6%) providing a solid foundation at the back. Both teams made several changes to their lineups. Stuttgart's manager opted for a fresh approach, bringing in Tiago Tomás, Lorenz Assignon, Nikolas Nartey, Jeremy Arévalo, and Ameen Dakhil during the game. Wolfsburg's head coach also rotated his squad, introducing Kento Shiogai, Aaron Zehnter, Dzenan Pejcinovic, and Jonas Adjetey. However, these changes did little to alter the course of the match. The result sees Stuttgart gaining momentum, potentially climbing the Bundesliga table, while Wolfsburg will need to regroup and address their defensive issues. This victory could be a turning point for Stuttgart as they look to build on this performance in the coming weeks.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
