About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion played out a 2-2 draw. The result was a testament to the resilience of both sides, with late drama ensuring the points were shared. Tottenham, who have been inconsistent in recent weeks, were looking to capitalize on home advantage, while Brighton aimed to continue their solid form. The match began with Tottenham taking the lead in the 39th minute through Pedro Porro (GAP +1.2%), who found the back of the net with a well-placed shot. However, Brighton responded just before halftime, with Kaoru Mitoma leveling the score in the 45th minute. The second half saw Tottenham regain the lead in the 77th minute thanks to Xavi Simons (GAP -2.2%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse to score. Brighton, known for their fighting spirit, refused to give up and were rewarded in the dying moments of the match. Substitute Georginio Rutter scored in the 90th minute to secure a valuable point for the visitors. This late equalizer highlighted Brighton's determination and ability to perform under pressure. Tactically, Tottenham made four changes to their lineup, bringing in Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Kevin Danso, and Xavi Simons. These changes were likely influenced by injuries and suspensions, as Tottenham have been dealing with a number of absentees, including James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. Brighton, on the other hand, fielded an unchanged lineup, reflecting their stable squad situation. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) statistics provided insights into individual performances. Danny Welbeck (GAP +3.2%) and Jan Paul van Hecke (GAP +3.3%) were standout performers for Brighton, contributing significantly to their team's efforts. Bart Verbruggen (GAP +2.8%) also played a crucial role in goal, making several key saves. This draw leaves Tottenham in a precarious position as they aim to secure a European spot, while Brighton continue to build on their mid-table stability. Both teams will need to address their defensive frailties if they are to achieve their respective goals for the season.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
