Game Review
In a compelling La Liga encounter, Villarreal secured a 3-1 victory over Real Sociedad, a result that might have surprised some given the competitive nature of both teams. Villarreal, playing at home, took control early in the match, with Gerard Moreno (GAP +3.2%) opening the scoring in the 7th minute. This early goal set the tone for Villarreal's dominant first half. The Yellow Submarine doubled their lead in the 15th minute through Georges Mikautadze (GAP +0.9%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse by Real Sociedad. Nicolas Pépé (GAP +2.9%) further extended Villarreal's advantage in the 23rd minute, showcasing his attacking prowess and leaving Real Sociedad with a mountain to climb. Real Sociedad managed to pull one back shortly after the break, with Luka Sučić finding the net in the 47th minute. However, despite this effort, they struggled to break down a well-organized Villarreal defense for the remainder of the match. Tactically, Villarreal's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's current form. In contrast, Real Sociedad's head coach introduced several changes, bringing in Duje Ćaleta-Car, Orri Óskarsson, and Aritz Elustondo, though the reasons for these adjustments were not specified in post-match reports. Key performances from Villarreal included Santi Comesaña (GAP +3.7%) and Luiz Júnior (GAP +4.1%), who controlled the midfield and stifled Real Sociedad's attempts to build momentum. For Real Sociedad, Mikel Oyarzabal (GAP +3.2%) was a standout, though his efforts were not enough to change the outcome. This victory solidifies Villarreal's position in the upper half of the table, enhancing their prospects for European qualification. Real Sociedad, meanwhile, will need to regroup and address their defensive vulnerabilities as they aim to maintain their position in the top tier of La Liga.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
