About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling La Liga encounter, Deportivo Alavés edged out Celta Vigo with a 4-3 victory, a result that defied pre-match expectations. Celta Vigo, playing at home, were initially seen as slight favorites, but Alavés' resilience and tactical adjustments turned the tide in their favor. The match began with Celta Vigo taking an early lead through Ferran Jutglà (GAP -0.4%), who scored in the 19th minute. Hugo Álvarez (GAP +0.8%) doubled the lead for the hosts in the 27th minute, putting them in a commanding position. Jutglà struck again in the 37th minute, seemingly putting the game beyond Alavés' reach. However, Alavés responded just before halftime with a crucial goal from Toni Martínez (GAP -1.9%), reducing the deficit to 3-1. The second half saw a remarkable comeback from Alavés, with Martínez scoring again in the 74th minute, followed by a decisive goal from substitute Abde Rebbach in the 78th minute, leveling the score. The winning goal came from another substitute, whose impact off the bench was pivotal. Celta Vigo's manager made five changes during the match, bringing in Javi Rueda, Iago Aspas, Fer López, Pablo Durán, and Sergio Carreira. Deportivo Alavés' head coach also made five substitutions, introducing Ville Koski, Denis Suárez, Ibrahim Diabate, Abde Rebbach, and Jon Guridi, which proved to be a masterstroke. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) data highlighted Óscar Mingueza (GAP +2.2%) as a standout performer for Celta Vigo, despite the team's defensive struggles. For Alavés, Ionuț Radu (GAP +1.8%) was instrumental in goal, making crucial saves to keep his team in the game. This victory propels Deportivo Alavés up the league table, providing them with a significant morale boost as they look to secure a strong finish to the season. For Celta Vigo, the defeat is a setback, but their attacking prowess remains a positive takeaway as they aim to bounce back in their next fixture.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
