About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a surprising Bundesliga clash, FC Heidenheim secured a 3-1 victory over Union Berlin, a result that defied pre-match expectations. Union Berlin, who were considered favorites, struggled to impose themselves against a determined Heidenheim side. The match began with Heidenheim taking an early lead through Mathias Honsak (GAP -6.7%), who found the back of the net in the 9th minute. Honsak doubled his tally in the 36th minute, putting Heidenheim in a commanding position before halftime. Union Berlin attempted to mount a comeback, with Leopold Querfeld (GAP -0.9%) scoring in the 75th minute to reduce the deficit. However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Budu Zivzivadze sealed the victory for Heidenheim with a goal in the 79th minute. Tactically, Heidenheim's approach was effective, capitalizing on Union Berlin's defensive lapses. The home team manager made strategic substitutions, bringing on Adrian Beck, Arijon Ibrahimović, Budu Zivzivadze, Niklas Dorsch, and Luca Kerber to maintain their momentum. Union Berlin's lineup saw several changes, with Tim Skarke, Livan Burcu, Tom Rothe, and Ilyas Ansah coming off the bench. However, these changes did not have the desired impact, as Union Berlin struggled to break down Heidenheim's defense. The result leaves FC Heidenheim with a significant boost in confidence as they look to climb the Bundesliga table. For Union Berlin, this defeat is a setback in their quest for a higher league position, and they will need to regroup quickly to regain their form. Post-match reactions highlighted Heidenheim's resilience and tactical discipline, with fans and pundits praising their performance. Union Berlin will need to address their defensive vulnerabilities to avoid further slip-ups in the coming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
