About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a Bundesliga clash on Saturday, VfB Stuttgart secured a 3-1 victory over 1. FC Köln, a result that aligns with pre-match expectations given Stuttgart's stronger form. The match unfolded with Stuttgart taking control early, as Ermedin Demirović (GAP +1.3%) opened the scoring in the 15th minute. His performance was pivotal, as he later added a second goal in the 84th minute, solidifying his impact on the game. 1. FC Köln managed to pull one back through Ragnar Ache (GAP -2.4%) in the 79th minute, briefly threatening a comeback. However, Stuttgart's Deniz Undav (GAP +4.4%) sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute, showcasing his effectiveness in front of goal. Tactically, Stuttgart's manager made five substitutions, bringing in Ramon Hendriks, Bilal El Khannous, Tiago Tomás, Josha Vagnoman, and Angelo Stiller. These changes were likely aimed at maintaining the team's intensity and managing player fatigue. On the other hand, 1. FC Köln's head coach introduced Denis Huseinbasic, Florian Kainz, Said El Mala, and Luca Waldschmidt, attempting to inject fresh energy into the squad. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) statistics highlighted key performances, with Deniz Undav's +4.4% indicating his significant contribution to Stuttgart's attacking prowess. Conversely, Cenk Özkacar's (GAP -3.7%) performance for Köln reflected defensive vulnerabilities that Stuttgart exploited. This victory strengthens Stuttgart's position in the Bundesliga, as they continue to build momentum with consistent performances. For 1. FC Köln, the defeat underscores the need to address defensive lapses and improve their form to climb the league table.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
