Game Review
Aston Villa edged out Sunderland in a thrilling Premier League encounter at Villa Park, securing a 4-3 victory in a match filled with attacking flair and defensive lapses. This result was somewhat expected given Aston Villa's stronger position in the league, but Sunderland's spirited performance kept the hosts on their toes until the final whistle. The match began with Aston Villa taking an early lead through Ollie Watkins (GAP +2.5%), who found the net in the 2nd minute. Watkins doubled his tally in the 36th minute, putting Villa in a commanding position. However, Sunderland quickly responded with a goal from Christopher Rigg in the 9th minute, keeping the contest alive. In the second half, Morgan Rogers (GAP +2.8%) extended Villa's lead with a goal in the 46th minute. Sunderland, refusing to back down, mounted a late comeback with goals from Trai Hume in the 86th minute and Wilson Isidor in the 87th minute, setting up a tense finale. Ultimately, it was Tammy Abraham's 90th-minute strike that sealed the victory for Aston Villa. Tactically, Aston Villa's manager made four changes to the lineup, bringing in Emiliano Martinez, Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa, and Ian Maatsen, while Lucas Digne, Marco Bizot, Victor Lindelof, and Pau Torres were left out. These changes were likely a mix of tactical rotation and managing injuries, as several players were listed with fitness concerns. Sunderland, on the other hand, fielded an unchanged lineup, perhaps reflecting confidence in their squad's ability to compete despite their lower league standing. Granit Xhaka (GAP +1.1%) and Nordi Mukiele (GAP -0.3%) were notable figures in Sunderland's efforts to control the midfield and defense. The result leaves Aston Villa in a strong position as they continue their push for a top-half finish, while Sunderland will need to regroup quickly to avoid slipping further down the table. The match showcased Villa's attacking prowess, particularly through Watkins and Rogers, while Sunderland's resilience was commendable despite the defeat. Post-match reactions highlighted the thrilling nature of the game, with both sets of fans acknowledging the entertainment value. Aston Villa's manager praised the team's attacking intent, while Sunderland's head coach focused on the positives of their late fightback. Overall, this match was a testament to the unpredictable and exciting nature of the Premier League, with both teams contributing to a memorable spectacle.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
