About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Bayer 04 Leverkusen delivered a thrilling performance in the Bundesliga, defeating VfL Wolfsburg 6-3 in a high-scoring encounter on Saturday. The match was a spectacle of attacking football, with both teams showcasing their offensive prowess. However, Leverkusen's superior finishing and tactical adjustments ultimately secured them the victory. The game began with Wolfsburg taking an early lead through Jonas Wind (GAP +1.1%) in the 16th minute. Joakim Mæhle (GAP +0.8%) doubled their advantage in the 31st minute, but Alex Grimaldo (GAP +5.3%) quickly responded for Leverkusen with a goal in the 30th minute and another just before halftime in the 44th minute, leveling the score at 2-2. Christian Eriksen (GAP -1.1%) briefly restored Wolfsburg's lead in the 38th minute, but the second half belonged to Leverkusen. Patrik Schick came off the bench to score in the 53rd minute, followed by goals from Edmond Tapsoba (GAP +4.0%) in the 68th minute and Ibrahim Maza (GAP +0.4%) in the 73rd minute. Malik Tillman capped off the scoring in the 90th minute, sealing a comprehensive win for the home side. Leverkusen's manager made effective use of his substitutes, with Patrik Schick and Malik Tillman both finding the net after coming on. The team showed resilience and adaptability, turning the game around after a shaky start. In contrast, Wolfsburg's defensive frailties were exposed, despite their promising start. This result propels Bayer 04 Leverkusen further up the Bundesliga table, solidifying their position in the race for European qualification. For Wolfsburg, the defeat highlights the need for defensive improvements as they aim to stabilize their mid-table standing. Post-match reactions praised Leverkusen's attacking display, with Alex Grimaldo's performance particularly highlighted for his crucial goals and overall contribution. The win reflects Leverkusen's strong form, having now secured multiple victories in recent weeks, while Wolfsburg will need to regroup and address their defensive issues moving forward.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
