About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a surprising turn of events at St James' Park, Bournemouth secured a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in their Premier League clash. This result was unexpected given Newcastle's recent form and home advantage, but Bournemouth's resilience and tactical execution shone through. The match began with Bournemouth taking the lead in the 32nd minute through Marcus Tavernier (GAP -1.8%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse from Newcastle. Despite Newcastle's efforts to equalize, they struggled to break down Bournemouth's organized defense. The home side eventually found a breakthrough in the 68th minute when William Daugaard Osula (GAP -7.0%) scored, leveling the score and reigniting hopes for the home fans. However, Bournemouth's Adrien Truffert (GAP +1.2%) delivered the decisive blow in the 85th minute, securing all three points for the visitors with a well-taken goal. This late strike highlighted Bournemouth's ability to capitalize on their chances, a theme throughout the match. Tactically, Newcastle made three changes to their lineup compared to their previous game, bringing in Harvey Barnes (GAP +2.0%), Jacob Ramsey (GAP -1.4%), and Anthony Elanga (GAP +0.1%). These changes were likely influenced by injuries and suspensions, as key players like Joelinton were unavailable. Bournemouth, on the other hand, maintained their starting lineup, showing confidence in their squad's consistency. Valentino Livramento (GAP +5.2%) was a standout performer for Newcastle, providing energy and creativity down the flank, while Đorđe Petrović (GAP +1.9%) played a crucial role in Bournemouth's defensive setup, keeping Newcastle's attackers at bay. Post-match reactions highlighted Bournemouth's tactical discipline and Newcastle's missed opportunities. The result leaves Newcastle needing to regroup as they aim to secure a strong finish in the league. Meanwhile, Bournemouth will be buoyed by this victory, which could be pivotal in their quest to climb the table. This result not only impacts the league standings but also serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of the Premier League, where any team can triumph on their day.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
