About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a crucial Serie A clash, Genoa secured a 2-0 victory over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi on Sunday, 15 March 2026. This result was somewhat expected given Genoa's recent form and their position in the league, as they have been performing consistently well in recent weeks. The match saw Genoa take control in the second half, with Vítor Oliveira coming off the bench to break the deadlock in the 61st minute. Oliveira's introduction proved to be a masterstroke, as he not only scored but also added dynamism to Genoa's attack. The second goal came in the 86th minute from Leo Østigård (GAP -2.4%), who capitalized on a set-piece opportunity to seal the victory for the visitors. Genoa's tactical setup was effective, with Junior Messias (GAP +1.7%) and Ruslan Malinovskyi (GAP +1.1%) playing pivotal roles in maintaining pressure on Verona's defense. The away team's head coach made five changes to the lineup, bringing in Vítor Oliveira, Alexsandro Amorim de Freitas Filho, Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Aarón Martín, and Jeff Ekhator Osayuki, which added fresh legs and tactical flexibility. For Hellas Verona, the game was a missed opportunity to gain crucial points at home. Despite a solid defensive setup, they struggled to create meaningful chances, with key players like Roberto Gagliardini (GAP -1.7%) and Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro (GAP -2.6%) unable to influence the game significantly. The home team manager made four substitutions, introducing Tomáš Suslov, Amin Sarr, Daniel Mosquera, and Rafik Belghali, but these changes failed to alter the course of the match. This victory strengthens Genoa's position in the Serie A standings, as they continue to push for a higher finish in the league. Meanwhile, Hellas Verona will need to regroup quickly to avoid slipping further down the table, as they face a challenging run of fixtures ahead.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
