About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Serie A encounter, Bologna edged past Sassuolo with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to an early goal from Thijs Dallinga (GAP -1.3%). The match, held on Sunday, 15 March 2026, saw Bologna capitalize on their early momentum, which ultimately proved decisive. The game's only goal came in the 6th minute when Dallinga found the back of the net, setting the tone for Bologna's defensive resilience throughout the match. Despite Sassuolo's efforts to claw back into the game, they were unable to break down a well-organized Bologna defense, with Lukasz Skorupski (GAP +4.0%) standing out with a series of crucial saves. Tactically, Bologna's approach was effective, utilizing a compact defensive setup that frustrated Sassuolo's attacking players. Domenico Berardi (GAP +3.0%) and Andrea Pinamonti (GAP +0.8%) were unable to find the breakthrough, despite their efforts to create opportunities. Sassuolo made several changes during the match, bringing on Cristian Volpato, Josh Doig, Darryl Bakola, M’Bala Nzola, and Aster Vranckx in an attempt to inject fresh energy and creativity. However, these substitutions did not yield the desired effect against a disciplined Bologna side. Bologna also made strategic substitutions, including Nadir Zortea, Santiago Castro, Remo Freuler, Tommaso Pobega, and Federico Bernardeschi, which helped maintain their defensive solidity and manage the game effectively. This result sees Bologna continue their positive run, while Sassuolo will need to regroup and address their attacking inefficiencies. The victory helps Bologna solidify their mid-table position, while Sassuolo remains in search of consistency as they aim to climb the Serie A standings.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
