About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In an engaging Bundesliga encounter, FC Augsburg and 1899 Hoffenheim played out a 2-2 draw, a result that was reflective of both teams' current standings and form. Augsburg, hosting the match, took an early lead with goals from Alexis Claude-Maurice (GAP +1.1%) in the 11th minute and Michael Gregoritsch (GAP +1.2%) in the 14th minute, showcasing their attacking prowess. However, Hoffenheim responded resiliently with Robin Hranáč (GAP +1.7%) pulling one back in the 35th minute, followed by Bazoumana Touré (GAP +0.3%) equalizing just before halftime in the 42nd minute. The game was a tactical battle, with Augsburg's early dominance being countered by Hoffenheim's effective adjustments. Augsburg's manager made five substitutions, bringing in Rodrigo Ribeiro, Kristijan Jakić, Elvis Rexhbeçaj, Mert Kömür, and Ismaël Gharbi, which indicated a strategy to maintain intensity and possibly secure a win. Hoffenheim's head coach also made four changes, introducing Alexander Prass, Kevin Akpoguma, Muhammed Damar, and Bernardo, likely aiming to bolster their defensive solidity and counter-attacking options. Key performances included Vladimír Coufal (GAP +4.2%), who was instrumental in Hoffenheim's defensive efforts, and Leon Avdullahu (GAP +4.3%), who contributed significantly to their attacking plays. Ozan Kabak (GAP +3.3%) also stood out for Hoffenheim, providing stability at the back. This draw leaves both teams in a similar position in the Bundesliga table, with Augsburg looking to build on this performance to climb higher, while Hoffenheim will be satisfied with their comeback and the point earned away from home. The result was not entirely unexpected given both teams' recent form, with Augsburg having shown resilience in their past matches and Hoffenheim demonstrating their ability to recover from early setbacks. Post-match reactions highlighted the competitive nature of the game, with both managers acknowledging the fair result. The draw reflects the balanced nature of the Bundesliga this season, where every point is crucial as the season approaches its climax.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
