About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

RB Leipzig secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Werder Bremen in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday, 4 April 2026. The match, part of Gameweek 28, saw Leipzig continue their push for a top-four finish, while Bremen's struggles in the league persisted. The game began with RB Leipzig asserting their dominance early on. Antonio Nusa (GAP +0.1%) opened the scoring in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Bremen. Leipzig maintained control throughout the first half, with their midfield, led by Xaver Schlager (GAP +2.1%), dictating the tempo. In the second half, Rômulo Cardoso da Cruz (GAP +2.2%) doubled Leipzig's lead in the 52nd minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Werder Bremen, however, did not go down without a fight. They managed to pull one back through a well-worked team move, but ultimately could not find the equalizer. From a tactical perspective, Leipzig's manager made five changes to the lineup, bringing in Assan Ouédraogo, Ezechiel Banzuzi, Tidiam Gomis, Conrad Harder, and Benjamin Henrichs. These changes were part of a strategic rotation to keep the squad fresh for the crucial run-in. Werder Bremen also made four substitutions, introducing Jovan Milošević, Patrice Čović, Yukinari Sugawara, and Samuel Mbangula, but these adjustments were not enough to overturn the deficit. Defensively, Castello Lukeba (GAP +5.3%) was a standout performer for Leipzig, effectively neutralizing Bremen's attacking threats. David Raum (GAP +3.8%) also contributed significantly, providing width and support in both defense and attack. This result leaves RB Leipzig in a strong position as they aim to secure European football for next season. For Werder Bremen, the defeat highlights the need for improvement as they look to climb the Bundesliga table and avoid a relegation battle. Post-match, Leipzig's players expressed satisfaction with the result, emphasizing the importance of maintaining momentum in the final stretch of the season. Meanwhile, Bremen's camp acknowledged the need to regroup and focus on upcoming fixtures to turn their fortunes around.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
