About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Bournemouth delivered a commanding performance at the Vitality Stadium, defeating Crystal Palace 3-0 in their Premier League clash. This result was somewhat unexpected given Crystal Palace's recent form, but Bournemouth capitalized on their home advantage to secure a vital win. The match began with Bournemouth asserting their dominance early on. Jefferson Lerma (GAP +1.2%) opened the scoring in the 10th minute, setting the tone for the rest of the match. Eli Junior Kroupi (GAP +1.6%) doubled the lead in the 32nd minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. The final goal came in the 77th minute from Rayan, sealing a comprehensive victory for the home side. Tactically, Bournemouth's manager made two changes from their previous lineup, bringing in Tyler Adams and Rayan, while Ryan Christie and David Brooks were left out. This rotation paid dividends as both new inclusions contributed significantly to the team's performance. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, made five changes, introducing Jefferson Lerma, Yéremy Pino, Chadi Riad, Jørgen Strand Larsen, and Justin Devenny. Despite these adjustments, Palace struggled to find cohesion and were unable to break down Bournemouth's defense. Daniel Muñoz (GAP +4.6%) was a standout performer for Bournemouth, contributing significantly to their defensive solidity. His efforts ensured that Crystal Palace's attacking threats were neutralized throughout the match. Post-match reactions highlighted Bournemouth's tactical discipline and effective execution of their game plan. The win boosts Bournemouth's position in the league, providing them with momentum as they approach the final games of the season. For Crystal Palace, this defeat is a setback, and they will need to regroup quickly to maintain their league standing. Overall, Bournemouth's victory was a testament to their strategic planning and execution, leaving Crystal Palace with much to ponder as they look to bounce back in their next fixture.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
