About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Manchester City delivered a commanding performance at Stamford Bridge, defeating Chelsea 3-0 in this Premier League clash. The result was not entirely unexpected given City's strong form and Chelsea's recent struggles. City, known for their attacking prowess, showcased their depth and tactical flexibility, which Chelsea struggled to counter. The game saw Manchester City take control in the second half, with Nico O'Reilly (GAP +7.5%) opening the scoring in the 51st minute. This was followed by a goal from Marc Guéhi (GAP +2.3%) in the 57th minute, effectively putting the game out of Chelsea's reach. Jérémy Doku (GAP +5.9%) sealed the victory with a goal in the 68th minute, capping off a dominant display by the visitors. Chelsea made two changes to their lineup, bringing in Andrey Santos and Estêvão, while Roméo Lavia and Enzo Fernández were left out. The reasons for these changes were not specified, but it could be attributed to tactical adjustments or managing player fitness. Manchester City also made two changes, with Rayan Cherki and Jérémy Doku coming in for Rayan Aït-Nouri and Omar Marmoush, possibly to inject more pace and creativity into their attack. Key players for City included Bernardo Silva (GAP +4.2%) and Erling Haaland (GAP +4.7%), who were instrumental in maintaining pressure on Chelsea's defense. Gianluigi Donnarumma (GAP +5.2%) was solid in goal, ensuring a clean sheet for the visitors. This victory solidifies Manchester City's position at the top of the table, extending their lead and maintaining their momentum as the season approaches its climax. For Chelsea, this defeat highlights the challenges they face in securing a top-four finish, as they continue to grapple with inconsistency and injuries. Post-match reactions emphasized City's clinical performance and Chelsea's need to regroup quickly. The result leaves Chelsea with much to ponder as they aim to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
