About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Barcelona edged past Rayo Vallecano with a narrow 1-0 victory at home. The match, part of Gameweek 29, saw Barcelona maintain their push for the top spots in the league, while Rayo Vallecano struggled to find a breakthrough against a resilient defense. The decisive moment came in the 24th minute when Ronald Araújo (GAP +3.1%) rose highest to meet a corner, directing a powerful header past the Rayo Vallecano goalkeeper. This goal proved to be the only one of the match, as Barcelona's defense, marshaled effectively by Araújo, held firm against Rayo's attempts to equalize. Barcelona's lineup featured several key players, including Robert Lewandowski (GAP +6.3%) and Raphinha (GAP +8.3%), both of whom were instrumental in maintaining pressure on the Rayo defense. Lamine Yamal (GAP +9.0%) also stood out with his dynamic play, contributing significantly to Barcelona's attacking efforts. Rayo Vallecano, despite their best efforts, were unable to break down Barcelona's defense. Players like Isi Palazón (GAP -1.2%) and Óscar Valentín (GAP +1.9%) worked tirelessly in midfield but found it difficult to create clear-cut chances. Both teams made several substitutions in the second half, with Barcelona introducing Ferran Torres, Marcus Rashford, Dani Olmo, and Marc Casadó to inject fresh energy into the side. Rayo Vallecano responded with changes of their own, bringing on Unai Lopez, Jorge de Frutos, Alfonso Espino, Sergio Camello, and Alvaro Garcia, but these adjustments did not yield the desired result. This victory keeps Barcelona in the hunt for the top positions in La Liga, as they continue to build momentum with consistent performances. For Rayo Vallecano, the defeat means they need to regroup and address their attacking inefficiencies to climb the league table. Post-match reactions highlighted Barcelona's defensive solidity and the importance of Araújo's goal, while Rayo's head coach acknowledged the need for improvement in their attacking play. The result leaves Barcelona well-positioned as they look to capitalize on their current form in the upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
