About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Athletic Bilbao secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Betis in their La Liga clash on Sunday. The match, held at San Mamés, saw Bilbao take an early lead and hold off a late surge from Betis to claim all three points. This result was somewhat expected given Bilbao's recent form, having been unbeaten in their last three matches. The game started with Athletic Bilbao asserting their dominance early on. Dani Vivian (GAP +2.2%) opened the scoring in the 25th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Real Betis. Bilbao doubled their lead just before halftime when Oihan Sancet (GAP -0.7%) found the back of the net, giving the home side a comfortable cushion going into the break. Real Betis, however, were not to be easily dismissed. The introduction of Pablo Fornals in the second half added a new dimension to their attack. Fornals made an immediate impact, scoring in the 75th minute to bring Betis back into the game. Despite their efforts, Betis could not find an equalizer, with Bilbao's defense, marshaled by Aymeric Laporte (GAP -2.1%), holding firm. Tactically, Athletic Bilbao's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, indicating confidence in his squad's current form. In contrast, Real Betis made several changes, bringing in players like Pablo Fornals and Hector Bellerin, which added fresh legs and tactical flexibility in the second half. Key performances included Iñaki Williams (GAP +2.2%), who was instrumental in Bilbao's attacking play, and Unai Simón (GAP +1.1%), whose crucial saves kept Betis at bay. For Betis, Cucho Hernández (GAP +3.2%) was a constant threat, but ultimately, their efforts fell short. This victory solidifies Athletic Bilbao's position in the upper half of the table, boosting their hopes for European qualification. Meanwhile, Real Betis will need to regroup quickly to maintain their mid-table status and push for a higher finish as the season progresses.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
