About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Bundesliga encounter, FC Bayern München edged out Borussia Dortmund with a 3-2 victory at Signal Iduna Park. The match, part of Gameweek 24, saw Bayern come from behind to secure the win, a result that aligns with their strong form this season. The game began with Borussia Dortmund taking the lead in the 26th minute through Nico Schlotterbeck (GAP +2.4%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse to score. Dortmund maintained their advantage until the second half when Bayern's Harry Kane (GAP +10.3%) equalized in the 54th minute. Kane, who has been in prolific form, struck again in the 70th minute to put Bayern ahead. Dortmund fought back and found an equalizer in the 83rd minute through Daniel Svensson (GAP +5.1%), setting up a tense finale. However, Bayern's Joshua Kimmich (GAP +9.2%) delivered the decisive blow in the 87th minute, securing all three points for the visitors. Tactically, Bayern's head coach made effective use of his substitutes, bringing in Jamal Musiala, Leon Goretzka, and others to maintain their attacking momentum. Dortmund's manager also made several changes, introducing players like Ramy Bensebaini and Julian Brandt, but ultimately, it was Bayern's clinical finishing that made the difference. The match featured standout performances from several players. Harry Kane's brace was pivotal, while Joshua Kimmich's late goal underscored his importance to Bayern's midfield. For Dortmund, Nico Schlotterbeck's early goal and defensive contributions were notable. This victory consolidates Bayern's position at the top of the Bundesliga table, continuing their impressive run of form. Dortmund, despite the loss, remain in contention for a top-four finish but will need to bounce back quickly to maintain their Champions League aspirations. Post-match reactions highlighted Bayern's resilience and Dortmund's spirited performance, with both managers acknowledging the high stakes and intensity of the fixture. The result leaves Bayern in a commanding position as they look to secure another league title.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
