About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested La Liga encounter, Getafe edged out Espanyol with a 2-1 victory at the RCDE Stadium on Saturday, 21 March 2026. The result was somewhat unexpected given Espanyol's home advantage, but Getafe's clinical finishing proved decisive. The match began with both teams probing for weaknesses, but it was Getafe who struck first. Domingos Duarte (GAP +0.1%) opened the scoring in the 45th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse from Espanyol. Just moments later, Mauro Arambarri (GAP +0.6%) doubled the visitors' lead, sending Getafe into the break with a commanding position. Espanyol responded in the second half, with Roberto Fernández coming off the bench to score in the 68th minute, reducing the deficit and reigniting the contest. Despite their efforts, Espanyol couldn't find an equalizer, and Getafe held firm to secure the three points. Tactically, Getafe's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, maintaining a consistent approach that paid dividends. Espanyol, on the other hand, introduced several substitutes in the second half, including Roberto Fernández, who made an immediate impact with his goal. The match was marred by a late red card for Getafe's head coach, Pepe Bordalás, in the 87th minute, which added a layer of drama to the closing stages. Despite this, Getafe managed to see out the game without further incident. This victory propels Getafe further up the La Liga table, providing a crucial boost in their quest for a higher finish. For Espanyol, the defeat is a setback as they aim to climb the standings, but their second-half performance offers some positives to build upon in the coming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
