Game Review
Union Berlin secured a narrow 1-0 victory over SC Freiburg in their Bundesliga clash on Sunday, 15 March 2026. The match was decided by a late goal from Jeong Woo-yeong, who came off the bench to make a decisive impact in the 90th minute. This result was somewhat unexpected, as Freiburg had been in decent form leading up to the match, while Union Berlin had struggled to find consistency. The game was tightly contested, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. Freiburg's defense, led by Matthias Ginter (GAP +2.0%), was solid throughout, limiting Union Berlin's attacking opportunities. However, it was Union Berlin's tactical adjustments and substitutions that ultimately made the difference. Jeong Woo-yeong's introduction proved to be a masterstroke, as he capitalized on a rare defensive lapse to score the winning goal. In terms of tactical battles, Rani Khedira (GAP +0.1%) played a crucial role in Union Berlin's midfield, providing stability and breaking up Freiburg's attacking plays. On the other hand, Freiburg's Maximilian Eggestein (GAP +0.2%) tried to orchestrate play from the midfield but found it challenging against a well-organized Union Berlin side. Both teams made several changes to their lineups. SC Freiburg's manager opted for a fresh approach by bringing in Yuito Suzuki, Vincenzo Grifo, Christian Gunter, and Jan-Niklas Beste during the match, although these changes did not yield the desired result. Union Berlin's head coach also made strategic substitutions, including the introduction of Jeong Woo-yeong, which ultimately paid off. This victory for Union Berlin is a significant boost as they aim to climb the Bundesliga table. For SC Freiburg, the defeat is a setback, but they remain in a competitive position in the league. The result highlights the importance of tactical flexibility and the impact of substitutions in tight matches.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
