Borussia Mönchengladbach secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over St. Pauli in their Bundesliga clash on Friday, 13 March 2026. The home side's win was largely expected given their superior form and league position compared to the visitors. The match saw Borussia Mönchengladbach take control early on, with Kevin Stöger (GAP -2.7%) opening the scoring in the 37th minute. Stöger's goal set the tone for the rest of the match, as Mönchengladbach continued to dominate possession and create chances. The second half saw Franck Honorat come off the bench to double the lead in the 62nd minute, securing all three points for the home team. In terms of tactical adjustments, Borussia Mönchengladbach made five substitutions, bringing in Fabio Chiarodia, Shuto Machino, Lukas Ullrich, Florian Neuhaus, and Franck Honorat. These changes injected fresh energy into the team, particularly Honorat, who made an immediate impact with his goal. St. Pauli, on the other hand, introduced Louis Oppie, Martijn Kaars, Connor Metcalfe, and Andréas Hountondji in an attempt to change the game's dynamics, but they struggled to break down Mönchengladbach's solid defense. Joe Scally (GAP +3.6%) was a standout performer for Mönchengladbach, contributing significantly to both defensive stability and attacking transitions. His performance was crucial in maintaining the team's shape and thwarting St. Pauli's attempts to get back into the game. This victory solidifies Borussia Mönchengladbach's position in the upper half of the Bundesliga table, as they continue to push for European qualification. St. Pauli, meanwhile, will need to regroup and address their defensive frailties if they are to climb out of the lower reaches of the standings. Post-match reactions highlighted the effectiveness of Mönchengladbach's tactical setup and the impact of their substitutes. The home team's manager praised the squad's depth and adaptability, which were key factors in securing the win.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
