Game Review
In a thrilling Bundesliga encounter, St. Pauli secured a 2-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart, a result that might have surprised some given Stuttgart's stronger league position. The match, held on Saturday, 7 February 2026, saw St. Pauli take the lead in the first half and maintain their advantage despite a late surge from Stuttgart. The game began with St. Pauli asserting themselves early on. Manolis Saliakas (GAP +0.5%) opened the scoring in the 35th minute, giving the home side a crucial lead. This goal set the tone for St. Pauli, who were determined to capitalize on their home advantage. The second half saw Danel Sinani (GAP -2.0%) double the lead for St. Pauli in the 55th minute, putting them in a commanding position. VfB Stuttgart, however, did not go down without a fight. Jamie Leweling, who came on as a substitute, managed to pull one back for Stuttgart in the 90th minute, but it was too little too late for the visitors. Despite their efforts, Stuttgart could not find the equalizer, and St. Pauli held on for a vital win. Tactically, St. Pauli's manager made no changes to the starting lineup from their previous match, showing confidence in his squad's ability to deliver. In contrast, VfB Stuttgart's head coach made several changes, bringing in players like Jeremy Arévalo and Lorenz Assignon during the match, possibly to inject fresh energy and alter the game's dynamics. Key performances included Deniz Undav (GAP +4.3%), who was instrumental for Stuttgart, although his efforts were not enough to change the outcome. Alexander Nübel (GAP +2.9%) also stood out, making several crucial saves to keep Stuttgart in the game. This victory is a significant boost for St. Pauli, who have been striving to climb the Bundesliga table. For Stuttgart, the loss is a setback, but they remain in a strong position to challenge for European spots as the season progresses. The result highlights the competitive nature of the Bundesliga, where any team can triumph on their day.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
