About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Borussia Dortmund secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Union Berlin in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday, 24 January 2026. The result was largely expected given Dortmund's superior form and league position, as they continue to challenge for the top spots in the Bundesliga. The match began with Dortmund asserting their dominance early on. Emre Can (GAP +1.8%) opened the scoring in the 10th minute, setting the tone for the visitors. Union Berlin struggled to find their rhythm, and Dortmund capitalized on their defensive frailties. Nico Schlotterbeck (GAP +2.3%) doubled the lead in the 53rd minute, further solidifying Dortmund's control over the game. Maximilian Beier (GAP +3.3%) sealed the victory with a goal in the 84th minute, capping off a well-rounded performance by the visitors. Dortmund's defensive solidity was highlighted by Gregor Kobel (GAP +4.6%), who ensured a clean sheet with several key saves. Union Berlin's lineup saw no changes from their previous match, indicating a consistent approach from their manager. However, the lack of tactical adjustments seemed to hinder their ability to counter Dortmund's attacking prowess. In contrast, Borussia Dortmund's lineup also remained unchanged, reflecting confidence in their current squad's form and fitness. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) statistics highlighted several standout performances. Waldemar Anton (GAP +6.7%) and Daniel Svensson (GAP +5.9%) were particularly influential, contributing significantly to Dortmund's defensive and midfield stability. Post-match reactions from the Dortmund camp were positive, with players and staff expressing satisfaction with the team's performance and the crucial three points gained. Union Berlin, on the other hand, will need to regroup and address their tactical shortcomings as they aim to improve their league standing. This victory keeps Borussia Dortmund firmly in the hunt for the Bundesliga title, while Union Berlin remains in the mid-table, needing to find consistency to climb higher. The result underscores Dortmund's status as one of the league's top contenders, while Union Berlin must look to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
