About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Brighton and Hove Albion secured a vital 2-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor in their Premier League clash on Saturday. The result was not entirely unexpected, given Brighton's recent form and Burnley's struggles. Mats Wieffer (GAP +3.0%) was the standout performer, scoring both goals for the visitors. The game was tightly contested in the first half, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. However, Brighton broke the deadlock just before halftime when Mats Wieffer found the back of the net in the 43rd minute. This goal shifted the momentum in Brighton's favor, and they continued to press Burnley in the second half. Burnley made four changes to their lineup, bringing in Florentino Luís, Lesley Ugochukwu, Hjalmar Ekdal, and Marcus Edwards, while Kyle Walker, Josh Laurent, Lyle Foster, and Hannibal Mejbri were left out. These changes were partly due to injuries and suspensions, as Josh Laurent was serving a one-match ban, and Hannibal Mejbri was doubtful with a hamstring injury. Brighton, on the other hand, made two changes, with Olivier Boscagli and Yasin Ayari coming into the starting eleven, replacing the suspended Lewis Dunk and the injured James Milner. The tactical adjustments by the away team's head coach paid off, as Brighton maintained control of the game. In the 89th minute, Wieffer doubled Brighton's lead, securing all three points for his team. Burnley struggled to respond, and despite some late substitutions, they could not break down Brighton's defense. This victory boosts Brighton's position in the league table, as they continue to push for a higher finish. For Burnley, the defeat adds pressure as they look to improve their form in the remaining fixtures. The result highlights the importance of squad depth and tactical flexibility, which Brighton demonstrated effectively in this match.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
