About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a surprising turn of events at the Emirates Stadium, Bournemouth secured a 2-1 victory over Arsenal in their Premier League clash. This result was unexpected, as Arsenal were the favorites going into the match, given their higher league standing and home advantage. The match began with Bournemouth taking an early lead through Eli Junior Kroupi (GAP +1.7%) in the 17th minute. Arsenal responded with a goal from Viktor Gyökeres (GAP +3.4%) in the 35th minute, leveling the score before halftime. However, Bournemouth's resilience paid off when Alex Scott (GAP +0.0%) found the back of the net in the 74th minute, securing the win for the visitors. Arsenal's lineup saw four changes from their previous match, with Ben White (GAP +3.6%), Gabriel Martinelli (GAP +1.0%), Viktor Gyökeres, and Myles Lewis-Skelly coming in, replacing Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Jurrien Timber, and Riccardo Calafiori. These changes were part of a rotation strategy, though specific reasons for each change were not disclosed. Bournemouth made a single change, introducing Eli Junior Kroupi in place of Amine Adli. Defensively, Arsenal struggled to contain Bournemouth's counter-attacks, with William Saliba (GAP +7.8%) and Gabriel Magalhães (GAP +7.1%) unable to prevent the decisive goal. Despite Arsenal's efforts, including substitutions like Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard, they couldn't break down Bournemouth's defense, led by Đorđe Petrović (GAP +1.9%). This defeat leaves Arsenal in a precarious position as they aim to secure a top-four finish. Meanwhile, Bournemouth's victory provides a significant boost in their battle to avoid relegation, demonstrating their capability to challenge stronger teams. Post-match reactions highlighted Arsenal's missed opportunities and Bournemouth's tactical discipline. The result emphasizes the unpredictable nature of the Premier League, where underdogs can triumph against the odds.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
