Game Review
Aston Villa secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James' Park in their Premier League clash on Sunday. The result was somewhat unexpected given Newcastle's strong home form, but Aston Villa executed their game plan effectively to take all three points. The match began with both teams showing intent, but it was Aston Villa who broke the deadlock in the 19th minute through Emiliano Buendia (GAP -2.3%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse to put the visitors ahead. Newcastle struggled to find a response, with their attacking efforts thwarted by a resolute Villa defense and an outstanding performance from Emiliano Martinez (GAP +4.0%) in goal. As the game progressed, Newcastle's attempts to equalize were met with stiff resistance. Ollie Watkins (GAP +3.0%) sealed the victory for Aston Villa with a late goal in the 88th minute, showcasing his clinical finishing ability. Tactically, Aston Villa's manager made two changes to the starting lineup, bringing in Jadon Sancho and Amadou Onana, while John McGinn and Lamare Bogarde were left out. Newcastle's manager also made two changes, introducing Yoane Wissa and Lewis Miley, with Nick Woltemade and Bruno Guimarães making way. These adjustments highlighted both teams' strategic approaches, though Villa's changes proved more effective on the day. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) statistics highlighted key performances, with Matty Cash (GAP +6.0%) and Ezri Konsa (GAP +3.8%) playing pivotal roles in maintaining Villa's defensive solidity. Newcastle's Kieran Trippier (GAP +2.9%) and Joelinton (GAP +3.3%) were notable in their efforts, but ultimately unable to change the outcome. This victory propels Aston Villa further up the Premier League table, providing a significant boost to their campaign. For Newcastle, the defeat is a setback, and they will need to regroup quickly to maintain their position in the upper half of the standings. The result underscores the competitive nature of the league, where any team can triumph on their day.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
