About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Premier League encounter at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Everton and Leeds United played out a 1-1 draw. The result, while perhaps not surprising given both teams' mid-table standings, was a reflection of a balanced match where neither side could claim dominance. The game began with Leeds United taking the lead in the 28th minute through James Justin (GAP -2.7%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse from Everton. The home side responded with increased pressure but struggled to break down a well-organized Leeds defense. It wasn't until the 76th minute that Everton found their equalizer, courtesy of Thierno Barry (GAP +0.5%), who slotted home after a well-worked team move. Tactically, both teams made two changes from their previous lineups. Everton's manager opted to bring in Idrissa Gueye (GAP +1.9%) and Iliman Ndiaye (GAP +1.8%), replacing Jack Grealish and Merlin Röhl, both sidelined due to injuries. Leeds United's head coach introduced Sebastiaan Bornauw (GAP -2.1%) and Anton Stach (GAP +0.4%), with Noah Okafor and Gabriel Gudmundsson making way, the latter due to a muscle injury. Dominic Calvert-Lewin (GAP +2.9%) was a standout performer for Leeds, his presence in the attack constantly troubling the Everton defense. However, it was Everton's Jordan Pickford (GAP +1.6%) who was crucial in maintaining parity, making several key saves to deny Leeds a second goal. Post-match reactions highlighted the resilience of both teams. Everton's manager praised the team's fighting spirit, while Leeds' head coach expressed satisfaction with the point gained away from home. The draw leaves Everton and Leeds United in similar positions in the league table, with both teams needing to find more consistency to climb higher. Looking ahead, Everton will aim to capitalize on this result to build momentum in their upcoming fixtures, while Leeds United will hope to convert draws into wins to improve their league standing.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
