About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at Turf Moor, Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur played out a 2-2 draw, a result that perhaps reflects the evenly matched nature of the contest. Tottenham, who made five changes to their starting lineup, were expected to edge this fixture given their superior league position and form, but Burnley showed resilience to earn a valuable point. The match began with Tottenham taking the lead in the 38th minute through Micky van de Ven (GAP +2.4%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse by Burnley. However, Burnley responded just before halftime when Axel Tuanzebe (GAP -2.3%) found the back of the net, leveling the score at 1-1. The second half saw Burnley take the lead in the 76th minute courtesy of substitute Lyle Foster, who made an immediate impact after coming on. Tottenham, however, managed to salvage a point with a late equalizer from Cristian Romero (GAP +1.6%) in the 90th minute, ensuring the spoils were shared. Tottenham's head coach made significant changes to the lineup, bringing in Dominic Solanke (GAP +0.2%), Yves Bissouma (GAP +0.3%), Kevin Danso (GAP -2.4%), Conor Gallagher (GAP +2.8%), and Djed Spence (GAP +1.2%). These changes were partly due to injuries and suspensions, with key players like James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski unavailable. Burnley, on the other hand, fielded a consistent lineup with no changes from their previous game, demonstrating their trust in the current squad despite several injuries. Xavi Simons (GAP +5.2%) was a standout performer for Tottenham, orchestrating play from the midfield and contributing significantly to their attacking efforts. His performance was crucial in maintaining Tottenham's momentum throughout the match. This draw leaves Tottenham in a challenging position as they aim to secure a top-four finish. Meanwhile, Burnley will be encouraged by their performance, which could prove vital in their battle to climb the league table. Both teams will look to build on this result in their upcoming fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
