About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Serie A encounter, Fiorentina and Inter Milan shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. The match, part of Gameweek 30, saw both teams battling for crucial points as the season approaches its climax. The game started with a bang as Inter Milan took an early lead through Francesco Esposito, who found the net in the very first minute. This early goal set the tone for a match that promised intensity and tactical battles. Fiorentina, however, showed resilience and managed to equalize in the 77th minute with a goal from Cher Ndour, ensuring that the home side salvaged a point. From a tactical perspective, both teams made strategic adjustments. Fiorentina's lineup featured David de Gea (GAP +0.0%) in goal, while Robin Gosens (GAP +3.0%) and Moise Kean (GAP +0.8%) were notable in their roles. Inter Milan's Federico Dimarco (GAP +6.2%) and Nicolo Barella (GAP +4.0%) were instrumental in maintaining their side's structure and pressing game. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) highlighted the contributions of key players, with Yann Sommer (GAP +6.5%) standing out for Inter Milan, providing crucial saves that kept Fiorentina at bay. Manuel Akanji (GAP +5.3%) also played a significant role in Inter's defensive setup. Both managers opted for changes during the match. Fiorentina introduced Roberto Piccoli, Pietro Comuzzo, Jack Harrison, and Giovanni Fabbian from the bench, while Inter Milan brought on Petar Sučić, Davide Frattesi, Luis Henrique, Ange-Yoan Bonny, and Francesco Acerbi. These substitutions were aimed at injecting fresh energy and tactical flexibility into their respective sides. This result leaves Fiorentina and Inter Milan reflecting on missed opportunities. For Fiorentina, the draw maintains their mid-table position, while Inter Milan, who were perhaps slight favorites given their form, will see this as a missed chance to close the gap on the league leaders. Overall, the match was a testament to the competitive nature of Serie A, with both teams showcasing their strengths and resilience. As the season progresses, both Fiorentina and Inter Milan will need to capitalize on their chances to improve their standings in the league.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
